Evergreen perrenials such as Euphorbias and Rosemary tumble over the terraces and shrubs are underplanted with long flowering perrenials such as Geraniums and Heuchera. The patio area is screened with feathery plants such as clump forming Bamboo and red Elder plus fragrant shrubs such as Choisya. All creating a peaceful and sunny corner to sit, with the odd glimse of comings and goings on the street...
The planting plan was created with online software that clients can also access, allowing collaboration, and provides a detailed plant list and useful seasonal maintenance instructions. I was contacted by a family hoping to make their outside space more usable for both themselves and their child on a low budget. Bearing this in mind I came up with a number of solutions they could action themselves, including removing or pruning back trees creating too much shade, taking out the base of an old rabbit run to give more space for plants and turning the rabbit shed into a play house ! 'Grocott Landscapes' then did a great job rebuilding a rotting retaining wall by the patio for me, with railway sleepers, which double as seating. I could then level and reseed the lawn, and work on creating wider curved borders, with planting close to the patio and house. I was also able to recycle existing stones found hidden under the lawn to create new curved border edges...
We chose Anja because she came highly recommended. She's been lovely to work with and has given us exactly what we wanted. She has great ideas and helped us create a lovely garden ready for our 12 month old son to play in. We've seen a massive increase in bees and butterflies and even have some resident hedgehogs. And everything is still alive ! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Anja. We have now entered the living willow season ! And I am looking forward to creating all manner of dens, domes, teepees, tunnels, archways and 'fedges'... Living willow is beautiful in all seasons and a great cost effective way to introduce instant height, interest and structure to most gardens. I build structures to order but am also happy to build something with you or run a group session... Please see my willow page for further information.
Still looking for Xmas presents ? I am now offering handmade, personalised garden gift vouchers that can be used towards either garden maintenance, design or planting advice, or even the creation of a living willow structure ! Please message me for further details and I can get creating for you... Anja
Athough autumn is a bit of a goodbye to summer it is also a welcome back to moist soil, which means it's a great time to take stock, move a few plants around and find homes for new ones ! Although a lot of my planting work takes place in spring, autumn can in many ways be a better time. There isn't a rush to get things ready for the summer and the plants have the winter to settle in and grow strong roots. I've recently been back to visit a few gardens I planted up in spring and am pleased to see the plants settling in despite a really hot summer...
After being contacted by 'Mini', who needed help to make her garden ready for the summer, I went along with a landscaper and a number of plants, and during the course of the day we managed to give it a little makeover...
